Project description The aim of this research project is to develop a convection drying system featuring air-drying functionality based on the use of liquid sorbents regenerated with the aid of solar thermal energy. The resultant solution is to facilitate both the drying of temperature-sensitive goods and a reduction in drying times. The project will also involve research into storage technology, systems technology, control strategies, techniques used to prevent the aerosol from entering the drying chamber, the selection of component materials and the characterization of a variety of liquid sorbents. An innovative drying process which both stores solar thermal energy as densely as possible and is able to transfer it to the drying process without any losses is expected to be presented at the end of the project. The novel system will minimize the primary energy consumed during the drying process and deliver a sustainable reduction in drying times.
