Project description |
The main objective of the SPIRIT project is to design a
complex prototype for a mobile game concept which facilitates
knowledge communication at historic sites. One technical
element of the project involves the development of an
interactive, mobile, location-specific augmented reality app
that can be used on modern devices such as tablets and
smartphones. On-board cameras, GPS and other sensors are used
to bring the ghosts of the past to life at specific locations.
The location at which they appear and the knowledge they impart
is controlled by a story engine which triggers the targeted
provision of multimedia content. Another aspect incorporated
into the technical prototype is a distributed architecture
consisting of cloud-based online media services combined with a
story engine which includes a framework model for interactive
stories. The linking of the model to an author tool enables the
creation and combination of content which is tailored to
particular locations and therefore to the stories told by
specific ghosts. The project also includes the execution of a
feasibility study and the development of business models for
not only established segments of the entertainment industry
(e.g. mobile gaming), but also new product marketing tools such
as gamification and infotainment. |
