Project description The aim of this development project is to optimize the automated processing of virtual urban models as a precursor to efficient editing using conventional CAD simulation tools. Data conversion alone often delivers unsatisfactory results and necessitates a substantial number of inconvenient manual adjustments. One of the core reasons for this issue is the variety of file formats used in the worlds of CAD and GIS. What is more, simulations place greater requirements on technically correct models. This project therefore focuses on the development of new processing algorithms which also take the special characteristics of urban models – almost all of them polygonal in format – into account. Future work will be expanded to include methods suitable for the processing of highly detailed models, which are becoming more and more prevalent. The intended area of application is computational flow simulation. Project results will be amalgamated into a tool and integrated into the existing software architecture at virtualcitySYSTEMS GmbH, thus paving the way for commercialization as a licensed stand-alone plug-in. The subproject being carried out at HFT Stuttgart takes the following title: Quality considerations and the analysis of both the usability of data for simulation purposes and data transferability between LoD3 und LoD2 models.
