Project description "The project “GeoCADUp: Understanding and assessing the geometry of 3D CAD-data for the digital mockup“ is located in the field of Industry 4.0 in the area of the overall vehicle design. In the digital mockup, all components, which have to be integrated into the installation space, must be checked for their spatial and functional requirements. So far, the established quality assurance processes are automated only to the extent that large amounts of components can be analyzed for intersection with their neighboring installation space. An expert still has to finally evaluate whether the situation is critical or not. The aim of GeoCADUp is to develop methods for an automatic classification as well as first assessments of the collisions. To achieve these goals we will explore algorithms beyond the state of the art that involve machine learning techniques. The geometries will be classified at the collision points to designate functions and tasks. A particular focus will be put on the mechanical interfaces of an engine. From the classification results, in a further step, we will derive interactions with neighboring geometries and first assessments of the collisions.
