| Project description | The goal of the joint research project MoNa 3D is the development of a next-generation mobile navigation system in which the navigation of every last mile is supported by a semantic route planner with the help of land marks and a realistic 3D depiction. This 3D depiction is especially helpful for a mobile pedestrian navigation system. Automobile navigation systems however, also benefit from the use of three-dimensional city models. With the help of these city models, visible land marks can be taken into consideration in the route directions, irregardless of if the directions are given in the form of a 3D map or in spoken navigational commands. MoNa 3D has several scientific goals. Two of the essential main tasks are: a cognitively adequate, semantic route planner with land marks in 3D, that can be used for a context-dependent, personalized navigation support and the development of a method for inexpensive generalized gathering and registration of building textures with picture editing methods and synthetic textures as well as the development of suitable compression methods for efficient data storage and data transmission of 3D building models. |
