Modern property planning and development requires increasingly interdisciplinary engineers. Their core competences are not only civil engineering but also business economics. Business engineers working in the field of property development understand the planning and construction of buildings and are able to combine this with the economic and legal requirements of both. Basic subject matter of the course is construction and portfolio management, also economic and property management.
The course develops a comprehensive viewpoint of property and prepares systematically for management. In small and medium sized companies managers are being increasingly required to understand the complex technical and economic ramifications of their decisions. Students on this course are prepared to meet these challenges.
The course is modular with a content of 210 credit points. Basic study (first and second semester) is completed with the Part 1 exam, the main study period (third to seventh semester) finishes with the final Bachelor exam.
The first two semesters cover general aspects of civil engineering and business economics. Technical aspects of this phase are modules in mathematics, mechanics, fundamental principles of civil engineering and geotechnics. Business economic modules cover finance and accounting, building management I, management administration, economics and law. English is a basic qualification within the first and second semester. Further social competence units make up the programme.
The main study period covers structural engineering, building construction, refurbishment construction and construction management. The business modules cover finance and accounting, human resource management and labour law, operational and financial controlling as well as marketing and sales.
In the sixth and seventh semesters students choose between majoring in „Building and Energy“ or „Property Management“. Building and Energy develops competence in the optimization of energy in the planning and construction of buildings. Property Management’s main emphasis is project development, management and evaluation.
Successful B.Eng. graduates can continue to a Master programme: International Project Management, General Management or Environmental Engineering.
