Management Information Systems as a stand alone discipline arose from Business Management and Computer Sciences. This especially includes planning, developing, introducing and operating application systems, but also the use of information technology for innovative business models (e.g. E-business, sales of digital content).
In the first and second semester, the foundation course, principles of mathematics, IT, business management and business informatics are taught. In the main course these skills will be expanded upon with lectures such as company software, commercial programming, cost-performance calculations. In the supervised practical study project, which as a rule takes place in a company, the learned skills will be expanded upon in practical use. The students can choose a major in the elective modules business informatics 1 and 2, business management and IT in the 6th semester.
The topic of the final paper is as a rule determined in co-operation between the university and an external project partner (company). Correspondingly the supervision will also be carried out co-operatively by the university and the project partner. The Bachelor thesis will be presented in the Bachelor seminar.
Business informatics specialists are employed in companies of all sectors based on their skills in business management and IT in particular at the interface of specialist applications for IT. Further typical employers are software and consulting companies, who themselves offer company software and/or introduce these into other companies and organisations.
