Business Psychology accesses the findings of psychology and provides a focus for solving business issues. Psychology and business have an optimal link through multidisciplinary training. A six month company internship provides the necessary practice for a successful job application. Three different focuses : Human Resource Management, Marketing/Market Research and Consulting allow for specific orientation.
Investigating company aims and strategies and recognizing the main motives behind the active business personnel groups are the main focus of the first two semesters. Economic relevancies and the development of vocational methodologies are a basis for study. Subjects studied are: development, personality and general psychology, accountancy, marketing and personnel management, statistics, economics, labour law and financial mathematics. Science-based work and presentations are further key qualifications.
In the second part of the course lasting four semesters, emphasis is placed on project oriented work. The functions of business departments are examined and the conditions for their successful interaction. Students choose between two main areas of expertise. Main areas are market research, advertising psychology, human resource management, performance management, project management, team and organisational development. Subjects include controlling, finance, social, work and organisational psychology as well as psychological diagnostics and evaluation. Keynote qualifications such as handling negotiations and intercultural competence encourage interpersonal management skills. All competence factors are consolidated in business simulation games.
The Bachelor thesis is completed in collaboration with a company in the sixth semester. Subjects are chosen according to the practical study projects and in agreement with the company mentor, the student and the responsible professor. The thesis can often lead to promising career opportunities.
Successful management utilizes more and more often psychologically based criteria for employee motivation and management. This opens a number of career opportunities to BP graduates.
