| The capital of Baden-Württemberg has about 590.000
inhabitants and is the centre of one of the most powerful
industrial regions of Germany. Stuttgart is situated in the
lovely valley of the Neckar and lies amidst of forests and
vineyards which extend right into the city centre. 19 mineral
springs with extensive spa and bathing facilities add to a
variety of recreation offers. On the last poll (2003) residents
assigned high marks to their town: "81 percent do like to live
here". |

Stuttgart lies amidst of forests and vineyards, numerous parks
invite to stay. From the Palace Garden to the "Killesberg" the
so called "green U" spreads. Due to the International Gardening
Exhibition in 1993 several smaller parks have been assembled to
one large green corridor of 8 km in length. |

Stuttgart offers a wide range of theatres and playhouses
providing almost everything from ballet and classical concerts
over musicals and variety theatres to puppet and amateur
theatres. Numerous museums and galleries cover almost all
aspects of interests. Looking for entertainment you'll find
various pop and jazz concerts, annual festivities, cinemas,
clubs, discos and more. |

For several decades Stuttgart has become known a first rate
and popular venue for national and international sporting
events. However, sport in Stuttgart is not only valued by
spectators and professionals. About 440 sports clubs and
organisations provide more than 70 alternatives to physically
exercise on all levels. |

architecture.
Lots of architecturally interesting buildings form the
townscape of Stuttgart. The Old and the New Palace, together
with other buildings around the Palace Square, the main
station, the New and the Old State Gallery to name just a few
of the many buildings in the centre. The TV Tower (the town's
landmark and first in the world of its type, built in 1955),
the "Wilhelma" (Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Moorisch style),
the Weissenhof Estate (the famous Federation for Work
Exposition of 1927 which established the "international Style"
of architecture, featuring buildings by Mies van der Rohe, Le
Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Hans Scharoun and others), the
Solitude Palace, the Hohenheim Palace to name just some more of
the outstanding examples of architectural works in and around
Stuttgart. |

education.
In the field of higher education Stuttgart claims a leading
position in Europe: its universities, universities of applied
science and academies meet with global approval in research and
education. A special characteristic of this location is the
close linking between high-tech, studies focused on practical
skills and the exchange of reqirements and knowledge in
partnership with the industry. |

and Thinkers" - and inventors
Gottlieb Daimler was one of the latter. In 1882 together with
Wilhelm Maybach he developed the first gasoline motor and thus
lay the foundation of what is nowadays one of the biggest
corporate groups in the word, the Daimler-Chrysler AG. |

surroundings.
The Stuttgart surroundings attract with their scenic landscape
and various lovely towns like Bietigheim, Ludwigsburg or
Esslingen. Located in the south-west of Germany Stuttgart is a
perfect starting point for trips to the Black Forest, the
Swabian Mountains, the Lake of Constance as well as the
adjoining countries Austria, France or Swizzerland. |
