Pre-Study Internship

The aim of the pre-study internship is the acquisition of practical experience in the form of both knowledge and skills. It is a prerequisite for admission to the university. Prospective students looking to enrol in one of the following bachelor programmes are required to complete one pre-study internship:

Architecture: 2 months
Civil Engineering: 12 weeks – certificate of completion to be submitted by the start of the 3rd semester at the latest
Business Management: 6 weeks
Climate Engineering: 4 weeks
Civil Engineering and Business Management 13 weeks – certificate of completion to be submitted by the start of the 3rd semester at the latest
Business Psychology 6 weeks

Prospective students who apply for places on the Architecture, Building Physics, Business Management, Climate Engineering and Business Psychology programmes and have not completed their pre-study internship by the time they submit their application are required to provide confirmation that they will have completed it by the time their programme starts.

Students on the Civil Engineering & Business Management programme are required to submit confirmation of the completion of their internship by the start of the 3rd semester at the latest.

A comprehensive weekly internship log (prose, not just keywords or bullet points) is to be kept throughout the pre-study internship and submitted to the Admissions Office when lectures begin.

How do I find an internship? Will the university help me?

No. Prospective students are responsible for finding their own internships. HFT Stuttgart is unable to provide you with any assistance (including in the form of a list of companies).

The pre-study internship can be spent at any organization able to give prospective students insights into the goals and content of the programme they intend to enrol in.

Is the pre-study internship subject to the minimum wage?

No. The completion of a pre-study internship is stipulated in the study and examination regulations and admissions/selection regulations for the aforementioned programmes. It is therefore a mandatory pre-study internship and not subject to the minimum wage.
