Exemption for child rearing
You must provide evidence that you are raising and caring for a child under 14 years of age. The child must be living in the household of the exempt student. Alternatively, you must provide proof that you invest a lot of time in caring for or raising a child. Exemption for child rearing is granted irrespective of whether the child is legitimate, illegitimate, legitimized or adopted. Custody is not mandatory for exemption.
The exemption request must be submitted directly to the university before the deadline defined in the notice on fees.
Forms of proof: Birth certificate and registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung) of the child and, if necessary, declaration on the care and raising of the child.

Exemption for students with two or more siblings
As of the summer semester of 2009, the only criterion is the number of siblings, independent of whether the sibling is a student or not.
The prerequisite for exemption from fees, however, is that two siblings may not claim exemption from fees in Baden-Württemberg according to this rule.
Applications for exemption must be submitted by the beginning of lectures at the latest (deadline).
Forms of proof: Certified copies of the birth certificates of the applicant and of the siblings, or copies and presentation of the originals to the Students’ Department.

Exemption for severely disabled or chronically ill students
The definition of severe disability is taken as that stipulated in Section 2 par. 1 of the Sozialgesetzbuch, SGB IX [Social Security Code]. For exemption, the degree of disability must be at least 50 percent or, in the case of the chronically ill, the student must provide proof that he or she requires more time to complete the studies, either because of doctor’s appointments or because the student requires a longer term of study due to his/her disability.
The exemption request must be submitted directly to the university before the deadline defined in the notice on fees.
Forms of proof: Severe disability card or medical certificate of difficulty in studies.
