The Universities of applied sciences Stuttgart and Esslingen offer together with the University Stuttgart 12 doctoral scholarships at the cooperative doctoral college „Windy Cities“.

The research focus lies on the economic use of small wind turbines for local distributed power generation in urban areas. At the research institutes of the universities involved, a total of 12 doctoral scholarships are awarded from funds of the Landesgraduiertenstiftung and the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts Baden-Württemberg. The grants are awarded to the terms of the Landesgraduiertenförderung law of the State of Baden-Württemberg and are conditional on the acceptance as a doctoral student by the Doctoral Committee of the University of Stuttgart. The Scholarships comprise a funding period of up to three years.

The doctoral thesis can be carried out in the three fields „Simulation / Visualization“, „Wind Energy“ and „Energy Storage“ on the following topics:

  • 3D geodata server and visual analysis
  • Intelligent control and load management
  • flow simulation
  • small wind turbines for use in turbulent flow
  • modeling of wind fields and wind energy potential
  • Development of Ru and Fe-based catalysts
  • Reaction Technology
  • load and yield of small wind turbines and the system integration of wind power

Through the College the innovative research projects are high level supervised, self-responsible processing is ensured and an interdisciplinary exchange promoted. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with an excellent university degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in the required fields with appropriate prerequisite skills.
